How to apply for Government Funding
At Cornerstone Care, we are aware that funding your care can be a concern or barrier to seeking the help you or a loved one needs. We have created this page to try to make the process of applying for government financial help clearer and easier.
-
To get help from the local council, you must first ask them for a care needs assessment. This assessment is done to identify what care needs you require and the type of care service that may help your needs. It also ascertains whether you are eligible for help from the council based on your level of need.
If needed, your GP, district nurse or Cornerstone Care can assist you with the assessment process.
-
A social care professional will normally come to see you to find out how you are managing everyday tasks. Things that will be taken into consideration are:
Your health, what you can or can’t do, or struggle to do.
Cultural and religious background and support network
Current living arrangements
How you would like to be supported.
Input from family or a carer if you would like them to be involved.
-
Once a care needs assessment is complete, the council will ascertain how much you need to pay towards your care. A financial assessment is free.
If you have less than £23,250 in savings (Upper Capital Limit), you might be elible for the council to pay toward your care. If you have more than £23,250 in savings or investment, the council will not pay toward care and you will need to self-fund your own care.
Depending on your savings:
The council will either pay the maximum amount toward your care with a small contribution from yourself, or:
The council will pay a small contribution, with a larger contribution from yourself, or:
You pay the full cost of care.
